Just pist off that I gave you guys a play on Felix Hernandez who is clearly in bad shape right now. 4 strait losses and he has another game with Oakland looming on the road. And it’s for the roses, as fast as you can, your fate is delivered, your moments at hand…It’s that time of year again to break out your fancy hats (Please women only) and mint juleps. The weather forecast will be ideal for the 140^th running of the Kentucky Derby. For those new to betting on the ponies, I will break down the types of bets and which horses I will be cheering on Saturday at 6:24pm EST on NBC.

Let’s first look at the types of bets available:

Win – This is a bet for a single horse to win.

Place – This is a bet for a single horse to finish first or second.

Show – A bet the horse will place in the top three.

Across the Board (Win, Place & Show) – This is similar to a show bet, but if your horse wins second or first, the payout is much larger.

Exacta – This is a bet for the first and second places – in the exact order.

Exacta Box – This is like the exacta bet, except that the winners can be in any order.

Trifecta – This bet is for the top three finishers in a specific order.

Trifecta Box – Similar to the trifecta except the winners can be in any order.

Superfecta – This is the toughest bet but one with the biggest payout. It chooses the top four finishers in exact order.

Superfecta Box – This is the same as a superfecta horses picked does not matter. except the order of the top four

Now to what everyone wants to know, who should I bet on?  Here is a breakdown of what I consider to be the top horses in the field of twenty.

The favorite at 5/2 odds California Chrome. Favorites win almost 33% of all horse races,  I do not believe this horse is above and beyond others in the field.  Victor Espinoza will try to lead this favorite into the winner circle, for his 2^nd Kentucky Derby victory. (2002 War Emblem)  California Chrome will be starting from post 5.

      Wicked Strong comes into the Derby at 5/1 odds, after his upset win in the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct.  He won the race by 3 1/2 lengths over the favorite Social Inclusion and undefeated Samraat.  History shows that the winner of the Wood Memorial performs well at Churchill Downs.  Wicked Strong will be starting on the outside in post 20.

      Ride On Curlin starts beside Wicked Strong in post 19.  This three year old has not yet reached its potential in my opinion.  He finished 3rd in the Rebel Stakes and 2nd in the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn.  Calvin Borel who has three Kentucky Derby victories and is the best jockey in the business on the Churchill Downs track.

      Danza (15/1 odds) This Todd Pletcher trained horse was the longshot winner at the Arkansas Derby, at 41/1 odds.  He could be peaking at the right time, so you cannot sleep on him.

Now to the part everyone wants to know, who is going to win?  After studying up this week my finalists will be:

Tonight is hockey night at the blog, we will have two plays from that sport, also I have another run line bet in baseball. Were still going strong this week at +5.85 UNITS. The gambling gods were definitely on our side last night, as one of the New York Mets players clobbered a 3 run home run to cash our OVER ticket. This was in the 9th inning with 2 outs, and the Rockies were up 7-1, so it basically became batting practice. Anyways sometimes its better to be lucky than good. So again tonight is hockey / baseball plays, and tomorrow I have a special guest who will be talking the Kentucky derby at the blog.

Guys lets get right to it tonight both hockey games are going OVER I can’t believe the numbers Vegas set for these games. I get a tired Wild team versus the Blackhawks, this could get ugly fast. I also get Pittsburgh and the NY Rangers in what could be a goal for goal war. Please lay the juice tonight, lets make some fast cash and move on to the derby.

King Felix takes the mound tonight versus the pathetic Houston Astros. Hes definitely in a revenge spot as the Astros crushed him last month in Seattle. Last year in this same spot at Houston, King Felix had 2 starts and allowed 0 earned runs and only 9 hits. Seattle won 7-1 and 12-5 in those games respectively. The Mariners were in a long losing streak when they last played the Astros, now they have won 4 of their last 5 games and are really starting to feel good about themselves. The Astros have lost in all 6 games Brad Peacock has pitched in this season, this is mainly due to the fact he has not made it passed the 5th inning in any of them. Hes only averaging 4 strike outs a game and that’s being generous. Vegas is obviously making the moneyline crazy expensive, but with the run line their only making you lay -110. Only having to lay -110 and win 2-0 and getting the backing of an awesome pitcher like Hernandez sign me up.

Well yesterday was amazing as “Run Line Wednesday” lived up to the name. We cashed both run line plays with the Nationals and Tigers. Its was nice to too because neither game was really a sweat after the 4th inning. When baseball teams do their jobs and your able to lay a great price you feel like a million bucks. Last night everyone was getting crushed by the NBA but we stayed with baseball and that was a smart move. Tonight we continue our baseball system looking to build the bankroll.

Tonight were going to look to bet the New York Mets versus Colorado Rockies game. Its just amazing to see the kind of seasons these two franchises are having right now. Sometimes chemistry and management finally comes together no matter the payroll size. Colorado’s offense is just ridiculously good right now. And they are the leaders in several offensive categories. The Rockies are number 1 in runs, batting average, and slugging percentage. It really has to do with Charlie Blackmon. The guy is just playing on fire, and until that stops we have to look to bet the Rockies games. Tonight we get pitchers Bortolo Colon and Juan Nicascio. Colon is strictly a fast ball pitcher and if the Rockies get the ones their looking for, well we could see a lot of home runs in smallish Coors field. 6 of the last 7 games versus the Mets at Coors field have gone OVER. 6 of the last 7 Rockies games have gone OVER this season. The Mets are 5-2 to the OVER in road games this season. Juan Nicascio is 4-1 to the OVER in starts this season.

Braves pitcher Ervin Santana has been unstoppable this season so far. I see more of the same tonight versus the Marlins. The Braves have gotten punched in the face the last 2 games. They’re gonna be embarrassed as hell and will not want to get swept tonight. I get to lay cheap price with a pitcher who has show he can win in tough road starts this season. Vegas will get more Marlins money tonight from the public as they have seen them winning lately. I hope this only lowers the price in our favor,

Well last night the 9th inning was very interesting as both of our bets came down to the wire. A bunt single allowed along with an amazing comeback allowed us to cash our big parley with the Tigers and Marlins. Unfortunately the Nationals decided to win to late and we didn’t cash our run line. This is baseball though its never over till its over, you always have to worry about that bullpen. All and all I am pretty satisfied with last night. We were pretty dead on with all of our baseball leans and just missed cashing 6 UNITS. Tonight there is more baseball, lets stick to this system and keep trying to grind a profit for the week.

There is an old saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Yes I know we didn’t cash this play yesterday. The reason could be attributed to a long flight and fatigue on the Nationals part. I think the manager for the Nationals gave his team an ear full for the lack of effort they gave last night. Its still early in the season and if they want to get to 92 wins their gonna have to win games like this. Jordan Zimmerman has been lukewarm lately. His last outing though versus the Astros he struck out 11 and led the team to a 5-0 victory. This could be the game where he gets his personal season turned around, and if he does we need to cash in. His opponent Brett Oberholtzer has lost his last 9 starts and is only averaging 4 strike outs a game. Again another case of the Astros in a real hurry to elevate a triple A pitcher to the starting rotation. Vegas is unwilling to pay us more then +110 to lay the run line with the Nationals for the second night in a row. You take what you can get sometimes.

Detroit Tigers have some serious momentum tonight after their last inning rally come from behind victory versus the White Sox last night. The White Sox are in hot water right now, since starting pitcher Chris Sale is still out till at least till this weekend. They’re in full scramble mode to find starting pitching help. Tonight is the same dilemma as their going with pitcher Hector Noesi, another spot bull pen guy who struggles to get through 1-2 innings. I wonder how long before he gets yanked and they have to go to their already depleted bull pen?  We get starting pitcher Max Scherzer a guy who is 9-5 versus the White Sox in his career. I only have to lay -115 and win by a score of 2-0?  Sign me up this game could get ugly in a hurry.

I know its always a bigger risk to lay the run line in a baseball game, there is a good chance we could lose 4 UNITS tonight. That’s gambling though. Hello Everyone,

If your seriously trying to bet baseball all season, then I applaud you for one. Its an absolute grind and its also just so darn unpredictable at times. There is one thing you can control though and that’s how much of a money line you lay. The experts and I agree with this opinion that if you bet over -130 in baseball, long term you will not be profitable. This is why you see some experts or touts taking big dogs sometimes. Once in a while those +250 dogs cash and they help to even out the variance of betting on -130/-120 favorites. You will see me a lot this baseball season laying whats called the “run line” or -1.5. Getting to lay plus money with a team I already value big and only having to win by 2 runs well that just makes to much sense. Run lines can be a bitch to cash sometimes, but I think you have better odds in of cashing a run line in baseball then say cashing an empty netter to win an OVER bet in Hockey. Just my two cents, your free to do as you please. You will never see me lay over -130 on any baseball play at this blog. Last night was crappy and we knew that going in that if Yu Darvish played bad we were toast. What was shocking is the Rangers offense completely no showing, Sunny Gray definitely proved me wrong. We did get a big time win with the Heat as they easily put away the Bobcats just like we predicted. By the way the Lebron James OVER total points cashed, if your were reading closely last night. I did add a late play on the Avalanche in hockey and Head Coach Patrick Roy seemed to make some questionable coaching moves, so we failed to cash.

I dunno how you do not take the Nationals tonight versus the Astros. I have been waiting for this series to start since last week. I know the doubters will say “but Bryce Harper is out till July…” Welp. Sorry I still get everyone else and their sum of parts is going to get going very early tonight. This could be a home run derby from the start.  Astros pitcher Jarred Cosart has been getting beat up by good offensive clubs this month. The numbers don’t lie, in his last 4 games he has given up 4 home runs and 17 earned runs. This is all expected from basically a triple A pitcher being forced to play too early. We on the other hand get an experienced pitcher in Gio Gonzalez who is 3-1 this year and carries a 2-0 lifetime record versus the Astros. The Nationals as a team are 7-1 versus the Astros in last 3 seasons.

You have to think at this point the Bobcats are toast, just like the Bucks in this same spot last year. The Bobcats are down 0-3 in the series and really looking forward to becoming the Hornets next year. I don’t see them putting up much of a fight tonight. The Heat also want the extra rest period that comes with finishing a playoff series early. I look for the Heat to win by at least 12 points tonight. Again if Al Jefferson is not 100% the Bobcats have no chance. Lets lay 7 points with the Heat, and buy the half point so we don’t have to sweat it.

Also if you manage to find a Lebron James total points prop, you might wanna play the OVER, I think he has a big 30 point game…

MLB:

I am going out with big time risk tonight as the Oakland Athletics have been playing amazing fundamental baseball. That being said I really like Rangers Pitcher Yu Darvish in this spot tonight getting to play in front of the home crowed. He did not play well last time out versus Oakland and I see him in a bit of revenge mode. The guy is playing amazing right now with his team getting 4 wins when he played. If Yu can keep his pitch count down and get to the 7th 8th inning, I have a good feeling about this play.  The Athletics bullpen has been questionable at times this season, and the Rangers managed to grab 3 runs off the Athletics’ bullpen in 3 games earlier this season. Athletics pitcher Sunny Gray does get into trouble early in games sometimes versus good offensive clubs. Example versus Texas where he gave up 3 earned runs. Hes a great pitcher but the pressure of being the so called “Ace” for the Athletics might get to him in bigger games. The Rangers batters should feel comfortable getting his pitch count up all night and really making him earn strike outs. Bottom line is I see a Sunny Gray blow up tonight, followed by some Oakland bull pen trouble. Lets take a risk tonight and lay the run line with the Texas Rangers. If we cash this play, we will likely take Perez and the Rangers in Game 2 of the series. A sort of continuation bet.

LEX KA WINS SUPER BOWL PICKS:

Super Bowl XLVIII gives the match up we have all been waiting for, as the two best teams all season from their respective conferences go to battle. The game is actually not being played in New York, but in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This town is known for its wind, which is why New York Quarterback Eli Manning does throw a higher volume of interceptions in my opinion.  For this game though the weather is said to be in the mid 30’s and roughly 7 mph wind. These weather conditions should really only bother the fans and not the teams as much.

The Broncos have been preparing all week in these conditions at the Jets facilities. This should raise Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning’s comfort level. Speaking of Peyton Manning. The man has had two weeks to prepare for this Seattle defense. No one is ever more prepared on game day then him. Peyton Manning is coming off the best season by any quarterback in NFL history. The Broncos have some of the best receivers in the NFL, and their all used to the complex system that Manning likes to run. I expect the Broncos to run a lot of high tempo offense, and use fast snap timing based routes. Playing so fast will help to avoid a low scoring game, which the Seahawks want to play in. I feel very good about this Broncos defense as well as they basically shut down the Patriots in the last game. The defense has played some heavy run teams and will no doubt be ready to play Marshawn Lynch. This is the lowest total all season for any Broncos game.

The Seahawks have been very conservative on offense the last 5 games, and basically told Russell Wilson not to turn the ball over. This team has relied heavily on their home field advantage to win games this season. I’m wondering if the bright lights of the Super Bowl will take this team out of the game early. Some teams classically no show for the big game and get ran over. The thing about this team is it has a great defense who basically carried them to this point. They say defense wins championships but really it’s the better offense who usually wins Super Bowls. The Seahawks will no doubt be watching lots of film of the Chargers vs Broncos 3 games. The Chargers somehow figured out how to slow down the Broncos offense. The Seahawks defense is led by Captain Richard Sherman, but he can only cover one Broncos wide receiver, there is still 3 others at some points on the field. Trash talk won’t stop this Broncos offense. The Seahawks defense will struggle versus the Broncos fast up tempo offense.

I like the Broncos to score and keep scoring, really try and bury the Seahawks. They will want to cement Peyton Manning’s legacy.

Damn it feels good to come on here and talk about a winning day with you! This week started out so poor guys as we had 3 straight losing nights, but we kept faith in the lower play system. Since then we have gone 7-1. Right now were sitting at 10-8, with a very real possible chance of finishing the week with a nice profit. A lot of you have been following me since October when I started this site. Every one of you gives me motivation every day to come on here and keep working my butt off. Another wining week is very possible! The year is starting out very profitable and positive for our bankrolls. I am going with the OVER tonight in the Clippers / Bucks game. Both these teams are lousy at defense which should make for lots of scoring. Both teams allow over 100 points a game on average. The Clippers allow 100.3 points a game and the Bucks allow 100.7. Just awful. Clippers’ games are 26-20 to the OVER and the Bucks are 22-21 to the OVER. The Clippers are 16-9 to the OVER in road games. The Clippers are also 16-11 to the OVER versus poor defensive teams allowing more than 99 points a game. The Clippers are also 10-3 to the OVER in January games and they are 5-1 to the OVER versus Central division opponents. The Clippers and Bucks games have gone OVER on 17 of the last 31 games since 1996. Also 2 of the last 3 games have gone OVER in this series. The last two times these teams played the Clippers put up 117 and 111 versus the awful Bucks defense.

Tonight Portland State takes on Eastern Washington. This is another Big Sky match up that we will look to make money tonight in. Yes Portland State has struggled at home this year, but they should feel confident versus Eastern Washington tonight.  Eastern Washington has not won a road game this year. The reason for this is that they repeatedly get themselves involved in a foul competition. Eastern Washington is not a deep team, only going with about 8 guys constantly. I look for Portland State to try and drive into the paint a lot tonight, and build up Eastern Washington’s fouls. It should be noted too that Eastern Washington has no seniors on this team, makes you wonder who is providing the leadership for this squad. This is a young squad that just seems to pack it in on the road. Portland State is 3-1 ATS vs Eastern Washington over the last 3 seasons. Portland State is 7-3 straight up in home games this year. Eastern Washington is 1-7 ATS on the road this year.

I am going withe UNDER in the Carolina Hurricanes and Blue Jackets game. Both teams’ goalies have been playing outstanding lately leading their teams to some serious win streaks this month. There is something about fading teams who are scoring a lot of goals every night though. I think this becomes a defensive game in a hurry tonight. I look for a 2-1 or 3-2 final tonight, just sneaking UNDER the 5.5 total. Yes I know it sucks to pay interest, however I think this is the right play tonight.
